about sleep

In 1980 Wayne formed his own dance company DASH which after many seasons in the West End toured the world, concluding back in London at the Coliseum.

DASH Wayne Sleep Dance Consort (see programme cover above)
Produced, directed, designed and financed by Wayne Sleep.

The show premièred at Chichester Festival Theatre in 1980, then toured to the King's Theatre, Edinburgh and the New Palace Theatre, Plymouth in 1981. The concept – to present dance to a wider audience – was a show of mixed styles: ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary, an innovation at the time and one that was well received by both critics and audience. As Ann Nugent said in Dance and Dancers: "Wayne Sleep deserved a special prize for making dance more accessible with his brilliantly conceived DASH."
